Mr. Glenn Morris Gammons, 85, of 686 Holly Springs Road, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday night, December 15, 2011, at his home. Mr. Gammons was born November 6, 1926, in Surry County, the son of the late Andrew and Alma Inman Gammons. Glenn served our country in the United States Navy following World War II. He retired as a knitting machine fixer from Renfro Corporation after many years of service and was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Gammons Martin of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Joy Martin, Glenn Martin, and Brandon Martin, all of Mount Airy; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Mike Simmons, Frankie and Johnny Cox, and Brenda Quesinberry, all of Mount Airy, and Moses Durham of Elkin; a stepsister and her husband, Frances and Frank Gammons of Mount Airy; two stepbrothers and their wives, Joe Bill and Jean Adams and Bernie and Mary Lee Adams, all of Mount Airy; and a sister-in-law, Betty Gammons of Thomasville. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gammons was preceded in death by his wife, Opalene Frances Jones Gammons; his stepmother, Versie Gammons; a sister, Versie Durham; and three brothers, Percy Gammons, Harlan Gammons, and Seldon Gammons. The funeral service will be held Sunday, December 18, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Holly Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wayburn Mosley and the Rev. Larry Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
