Mr. Glenn Edward Nicol, 92, of Mount Airy, passed away early Thursday morning, October 5, 2017, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Nicol was born December 28, 1924, in Shelby County, IL, one of two sons born to the late Robert Raymond “Bert” and Sarah Mae Hoy Nicol. Glenn served our country in the United States Army during World War II. He retired as the marketing production manager from Marion Laboratories, Inc., a pharmaceutical company based in Kansas City, MO, and was a member of Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Mathieson Phibbs Nicol of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Sue and Arthur Dhermy and Nancy Marie and Thomas Force, all of Decatur, IL; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian Edward and Cynthia Nicol of Corvallis, OR; a stepson and his wife, Philip Paul and LeAnna Phibbs of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nicol was preceded in death by his first wife, Reah Sue Long Nicol; and a brother, James W. Nicol. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy will be in charge of the cremation and arranging the burial to take place at Pleasant View Cemetery in Assumption, IL, beside his first wife. There are no local services planned.
