Mrs. Glenna “Kay” Hurst Lawson, age 72, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday morning, March 31, 2023, at Northern Regional Hospital. Mrs. Lawson was born February 3, 1951, in Montgomery County, Maryland to the late Glen and Mary Jo Chapman Hurst. Mrs. Lawson was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She spent over twenty years as a Social Worker in Surry County, where she impacted many lives. Kay will be deeply missed by all that knew her. Surviving is her spouse, Alton Otto Cook, a daughter, Becky Lawson and fiancé Chris McCraw; a son, Charles Lawson and girlfriend, Carla Shinault; three grandchildren, Amber Nicole Lawson, Aaron Lawson, Logan Sawyers; one great-granddaughter, Kaelynn Lawson; a sister and brother-in- law, Susan Hurst Sams and Roger; special friends, Norma Miller, Sharon and Rusty Snow; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Nonnie Cook. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens in Mount Airy with Dr. Jonathan Casstevens officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at 1:30 until 2:30 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the love and care given to Mrs. Lawson. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
