Gordon Anthony Vernon

Mr. Gordon Anthony Vernon, 49, of 231 Summit Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, February 22, 2011, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Vernon was born April 13, 1961, in Surry County, son of Alma Nichols Vernon and the late Grady Pettis Vernon. Gordon was formerly employed by Renfro Corporation. He is survived by his mother, Alma Nichols Vernon of the home; a sister, Joan Cook Martin and her husband, Ed Martin, of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and several grand nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Mr. Vernon was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Wade Michael and Carolyn Thompson Vernon. The funeral service will be held Friday, February 25, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Dr. David Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
