Mrs. Grace Doris Rich Jarrell, age 95, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully May 30, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born on July 25th,1928 in Daytona Beach, Florida, the eighth of nine children born to the late Elton Maurice Rich and Laverna Foster Rich. She played in the band in high school and after graduation attended Stetson University in Deland, Florida. In 1949 she married Oval Nelson Jarrell and moved with him to Mount Airy, North Carolina, to begin their life together. They were the parents of five children. She was a faithful member of Flippin Memorial Baptist Church for 75 years and served in many capacities. She also worked as a teacher's aide at Jones Elementary School for many years and was a mentor to countless students. She sang in the choir and played the piano all her life. She loved music, reading, swimming, line dancing, sewing, knitting, doing crossword puzzles, and helping other people. She also enjoyed making homemade pickles, jams and jellies, and taking care of her little dogs. She loved God and her family and was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. Surviving Mrs. Jarrell are her daughter and son-in-law, Trula Jarrell Barker and Bill; son and daughter-in-law, Adrian Jarrell and Sherita; daughter-in law, Waynette Jarrell; grandchildren and their spouses, Billy Barker and Dusty, Brad Barker and Tiffany, Kristen Jarrell Barnett and Cory, Ethan Jarrell and Lois, Adam Jarrell and Valentina, Logan Jarrell and Kari, and Hannah Jarrell Storbeck and Chris; great grandchildren, Alden, Taylor, Elise and Colby, Ian, Merry Grace, Paige, Jay, Macey, Ella, Benjamin, Joshua, Sterling, Aurora, Olivia, Florian, Donovan, and Leon. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jarrell was preceded in death by her loving husband of many years, Oval Nelson Jarrell; daughter, Verna Ray Jarrell; sons, Rich Nelson Jarrell, and Maurice Edward Jarrell.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy at 10 AM with the Rev. Tim Burton officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. There will be no formal visitation. She lived a long and full life in service to her family, church, and others. She left this world surrounded by her family, as they sang songs and expressed love to her. She is surely joyful in the presence of so many loved ones who have long awaited her arrival.
