Mr. Gray Willie Phillips, Sr., 72, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Phillips was born January 16, 1940, in Surry County, to the late Joseph and Pearlie Mae Edwards Phillips. He retired from Carolane Propane Gas and was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Phillips of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Dana Caudle, Cathy and Mike Leftwich, Linda Faye and Ronnie Williams, and Judy Kay Caudle, all of Mount Airy; sons and a daughter-in-law, Gray Willie Phillips, Jr. of Holly Springs, David Wayne and Debbie Phillips of Arcadia, and Michael Lee Phillips of Winston-Salem; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters and a brother-in-law, Belva Cobbler, Sylvia Conner, Brenda Beverly, Margaret Davis, Versia Nelson, and Martha Phillips, all of Mount Airy, and JoAnn and Roger Willard of Kernersville; and brothers, Jerry Phillips and Bobby Phillips, both of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Payne; and brothers, E.J. Phillips and Jack Phillips. The funeral service will be held Monday, February 20, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Justin Caudle and the Rev. Dale Bass officiating. Burial will follow in The Peoples Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Moody Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030, to assist the family with the funeral expenses.
