Gregory Van Franklin

Mr. Gregory Van Franklin, 54, of 143 Worthington Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Friday morning, January 25, 2013, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Franklin was born October 18, 1958, in Surry County, the son of the late Charles Curtis and Mabel Gravley Lewis. Gregory was formerly employed at L.S. Starrett Company and was a member of the Christian faith. He is survived by his wife, Cindy Tate Franklin of the home; a son, Mason Gregory Franklin of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Mark King of Mount Airy; three brothers, Michael Lewis, Chris Lewis, and Darren Lewis, all of Mount Airy; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bud and Betty Tate of Mount Airy; and five brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dr. Darrell and Tina Tate of Pilot Mountain, Clark and Sheila Boyd, Karen and Ernie Pruitt, and Chad and Shannon Phipps, all of Mount Airy, and Darren and Stephanie Tate of King. In addition to his parents, Mr. Franklin was preceded in death by a special aunt, Gladys Gravley McHone. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at 12:00 noon at Highland Park Baptist Church, with Dr. Darrell Tate officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 12:00 noon at Highland Park Baptist Church.
