Mr. Gurney Lee Coe, 80, of Dobson passed away Saturday evening May 16, 2009. Timothy 4:6-8: "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, and I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them as that love his appearing." Mr. Coe was born in Surry County on June 1, 1928 to the late Thomas Wilson Coe and the late Maude Coe Coe. He was retired farmer and logger; he was a charter deacon and member of Second Chance Church. Surviving are his wife Mary Lessie Jenkins Coe, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law Carol and Avery Wood, of Elkin, a son and daughter-in-law Rev. Terry and Irene Coe of Elkin; nine grandchildren Todd and Vanessa Baker, Tony and Lisa Wood, Steve and Pam Wood, Sharia and James Templeton, Heather and Ray Grant, Brittany and Nathan Guy, Summer and Brandon Ashley, Kelly Oxendine; Ally Coe; seven great grandchildren Bryan Wood, Sydney Baker, Hannah Baker, Riley Templeton, Jaylyn Templeton, Eden Ashley, and Blake Ashley; by three sisters and brother-in-law Peggy and RC Wishon of Elkin, Norma Williams, of Yadkinville, Maudie Stanley of Dobson; by two brothers and sisters-in-law Eddie and Betty Coe of Jonesville, Raymond and Helen Coe of Dobson; by a brother-in-law Ed Schaumm of Winston Salem. Mr. Coe was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held 6:30 PM Monday May 18, 2009 at Second Chance Church with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Rev. Butch Holder and Rev. Bill Jenkins will officiate the services. The family will receive friends at Second Chance Church on Monday evening from 5:30 until time of the service at 6:30 PM. The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Second Chance Church Youth Center Fund 449 Bear Creek Church Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
