Gurney William Watson

Mr. Gurney William Watson, 71, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011, at his home. Mr. Watson was born February 6, 1940, in Watauga County, to Spencer and Mamie Wallace Watson. He worked in dry wall construction and was a member of Northside Baptist Church. Surviving are his devoted wife, Barbara Cantrell Watson of the home; four sisters, Faye Branch of Chesapeake, VA, Jeanette Farthing of Banner Elk, Ruth Greene of Banner Elk, and Pauline Seatz of Zionville; and three brothers, Finley Watson of Banner Elk, Howard Watson of Mount Airy, and Ronda Watson of Boone. In addition to his parents, Mr. Watson was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis Watson, Leonard Watson, and Harry Watson. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Northside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dean Eaton officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the church. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
