Mrs. Gurtha Wilmoth Coe, 97, of Elkin, widow of Dallas Emmerson Coe, passed away Thursday August 16, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. She was born in Surry County on January 12, 1910 to the late Tom and Dora Thomas Wilmoth and was the oldest member of Stony Knoll United Methodist Church. Survivors include four grandchildren, Keith Coe of Charlotte, Lisa Coe of Morganton, Brent Coe of East Bend and Bennett Coe of Tobaccoville; four great-grandchildren Brock Coe, Madison Coe, Mason Coe and Chaston Runyan; two great-great grandchildren, Addison Coe and Nicholas Coe; and a special daughter-in-law Inez Tilley and husband Ted of Boonville. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Coe was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and Brent Coe; two sisters, Oma Shoaf and Pearl Phillips; two brothers , Lloyd Wilmoth and Gennie Wilmoth.. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Stony Knoll United Methodist Church with Rev. Ricky Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Stony Knoll United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund c/o. Dorothy McCormick 1085 Stony Knoll Road Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center and to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the love and care given to Mrs. Coe.
