Mr. Guy Wallace Watson, 83, of 299 Watson Road, Mount Airy, passed away Monday evening, November 26, 2012, at his home. Mr. Watson was born July 1, 1929, in Surry County, one of eight children born to the late Dixie Allen and Mary Jenny Jarvis Watson. Guy served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a longtime tobacco farmer, in addition to being employed as a carpenter at Town and Country Builders and Blue Ridge Enterprises. In his later years, Guy worked part-time at Snow's Garage. Mr. Watson was a member of Renfro Masonic Lodge #691 AF and AM and a member of Westside Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Loretta Phillips Watson of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, the Rev. Terry Ray and Mildred Watson and Guy Randall "Randy" Watson, all of Mount Airy; two granddaughters and their husbands, Shannon Marie and Jason Burnette of Mount Airy and Tina Lynn and Chad Johnson of Ararat; four great-granddaughters, Ashley Watson, Kaylee Burnette, Olivia Johnson, and Chloe Johnson; a stepgranddaughter, Grace Johnson; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Edith and Alfred Vernon and Peggy and Carl Atkins, all of Mount Airy, and Eddie Alexander of Clemmons; a brother and three sisters-in-law, Bobby Gray and Nancy Watson, Ruby Watson, and Myrtle Wood, all of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Watson was preceded in death by an infant brother, Ray Watson; two sisters, Faye Thore and Betty Jo Alexander; and a brother, Dixie Allen Watson, Jr. The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 29, 2012, at 3:00 PM at Westside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Terry Ray Watson and the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at Westside Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or The Salvation Army, P.O.
