Mrs. Hallie Deatherage Shinault, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, November 27, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Shinault was born May 2, 1929, in Surry County, to the late Robert Lee and Reecie Goin Deatherage. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Shinault is survived by her husband, Dee L. Shinault of the home; three daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda Faye Edwards, Glenda and Jimmy Slate, and Donna Dee Shinault, all of Mount Airy; a stepdaughter, Brenda Morris of Winston-Salem; a son and two daughters-in-law, Linda Dowell Bryant and Rickey and Angie Shinault, all of Mount Airy; nine grandchildren, Debbie Flippen, Michael Flippen, Daniel Edwards, Jesse Hayes, Hallie Crotts, Kathy Hunt, Dusty Slate, Kenny Dowell, and Katie Simmons; a stepgranddaughter, Kasey McHone; twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Lilla and Herman Shinault of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shinault was preceded in death by a son, Larry Edward "Buster" Dowell; a brother, Rab Deatherage; and two sisters, Virginia Shinault and Irene Atkins. The funeral service will be held Sunday, November 30, 2008, at 1:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Timmy Crotts and the Rev. Jerry King, and burial will follow in the Old Hollow Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
