Mr. Hardy Cleve Collins, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Collins was born March 20, 1921, in Surry County, to the late Roy and Abbie Lucinda Cockerham Collins. He served in the United States Air Force and retired from Mount Airy Furniture Company. Mr. Collins is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Gary Leftwich of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, W.L. and Nancy Collins of Mount Airy; grandchildren and their spouses, Tammy and Brian Brim, Pam and Frank Shelton, Leigh Anne and Marty Jackson, and Travis Collins; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eva Collins of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his wife, Josie Dean Collins; two sisters, Mary Rigney and Dorothy Riggs; and a brother, Harvey Collins. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Epworth United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Frank Shelton and the Rev. Chris Benfield officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund, 922 Banner Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
