Mr. Harlan Kenneth Gammons, 82, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, April 18, 2011, at his home. Mr. Gammons was born March 7, 1929, in Surry County, to the late Andrew and Alma Inman Gammons. He owned and operated Holly Springs Tackle Shop and was a member of The Peoples Church. He is survived by his wife, Betty Garrett Gammons of the home. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gammons was preceded in death by his first wife, Cornelle Gammons; and a son, Harlan Kenneth Gammons, II. Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Gail Gammons of Mount Airy; two grandchildren and a spouse, Harlan Kenneth Gammons, III and Corey and Tonya Gammons; four great-grandchildren; three step-daughters and their husbands, Rita and Mickey Epperson of Winston-Salem, Tammy and Jack Clark of Trinity, and Angie and Darin Moser of Mount Airy; five step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Frankie and Johnny Cox, Betty and Mike Simmons, and Brenda Quesinberry, all of Mount Airy; a brother, Glenn Gammons of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Versie Durham; two brothers, Seldon Gammons and Percy Gammons. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Eugene Brinkley and the Rev. Jimmy Cain officiating. Burial will follow in the Jessup Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
