Harley Green Vass

Mr. Harley Green "Boots" Vass, 101, of 5292 Wards Gap Road, Cana, VA, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2007, at Trinity Mission in Hillsville, VA. Mr. Vass was born October 22, 1906, in Carroll County, VA, to the late David and Rosey Bolt Vass. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosie and Gary Cassell of Hillsville, VA, and Treshia and John Crowl of Mount Airy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Brenda Vass of Cana, VA, and Lester and Joan Vass and Michael and Lucille Vass, all of Hillsville, VA; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Vass was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Hendrick Vass; a granddaughter, Jennifer Vass; two sisters; and two brothers. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at 11:00 AM at Rome Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Clarence Marshall and the Rev. Leonard Vass, and burial will follow at Bluemont Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the VFW Post 1115 of Hillsville, VA. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service.
