Harlie Raymond McMillian

Mr. Harlie Raymond McMillian, 94, of Cana, VA, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his family. Mr. McMillian was born July 30, 1915, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Stonewall Jackson and Margaret Evaline Easter McMillian. He was a kind and gentle man and well known and liked by everyone in the community. Mr. McMillian was an orchardist and attended Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 70 years, Franie Hawks McMillian of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Clayton Jones, JoAnn and Clarence Jones, and Janice and Marlie Crotts, all of Cana, VA, and Brenda and Dave Brown of Spartanburg, SC; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Brenda McMillian of Cana, VA; ten grandchildren, Brian, Brent and Faron Jones, Julie Burcham, Jeremy and Jamie Crotts, Melanie Webb, Kenny, Scottie and Dennis McMillian; eleven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Essie Mayes; and five half-sisters, Beulah Edwards, Bertie Hawks, Imogene Hodge, Mary Jones, and Joyce Samuel. In addition to his parents, Mr. McMillian was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Effie Hawks McMillian; three grandchildren, Kim Jones, Elizabeth McMillian Combs, and Ashley Reynolds; a sister, Ocie Felts; three brothers, Bill McMillian, Roger McMillian, and Joel McMillian; four infant brothers and sisters; a half-sister, Blanche Williams; and two half-brothers, Raleigh McMillian and Robert McMillian. The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 19, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Arwood Edwards, the Rev. Tommy Vass and the Rev. Marlie Hawks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 19, 2009, at the church from 12:00 noon until the time of the service.
