Mr. Harold Lloyd Gillespie, Sr., 78, of 1877 Fancy Gap Road, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, October 16, 2006, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Gillespie was born August 26, 1928, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Howard Dilver and Nellie Elzena Stantliff Gillespie. He was the former owner and operator of H.L. Gillespie's Garage and Body Shop and was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Frances Booker Gillespie of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Brent Davis of Holly Springs; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd and Faye Gillespie and John and Linda Gillespie, all of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren, Hunter Davis and Preston Davis, both of Holly Springs, Jillian Gillespie, Eve Gillespie, Jack Gillespie, Falon Gillespie, and Isabella Gillespie, all of Mount Airy, and Andrea Rinaldi of Thomasville; and a sister, Eleanor Simmons of Hillsville, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gillespie was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Phillips; and a brother, Howard E. Gillespie. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. J. Cecil Hill, and burial will follow in the Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
