Mr. Harold H. Layne, 79, husband of Mrs. Thelma Shelton Layne of Dobson went home to be with the Lord on Saturday October 25, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center with his loving family by his bedside. He was born in Surry County on May 28, 1929 to the late Festus Elhannan and Alma Harbour Layne. Mr. Layne was a retired farmer and served on the Board of Directors for Surry Telephone Membership Corporation for thirty years. He was a dedicated member of Double Creek Church of Christ and a veteran of the United States Army having served our country in Korea during the Korean War where he earned a Purple Heart among other medals. He was a Mason with the Copeland Masonic Lodge # 390 and charter member of the Copeland Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star # 22. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of fifty-five years, Thelma Shelton Layne of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law. Joseph and Kim Layne of Dobson and Richard and Angie Layne of Pilot Mountain; four grandchildren, Allie Layne and Mallory Layne both of Pilot Mountain and Jessica Layne and Daniel Layne of Dobson; a sister, Janice Harris of Dobson; two nieces, Ava Bowman and Jeanette Fredericks; a great-niece, Elaine Bowman; a great-nephew, Eric Fredericks and a sister-in-law Mary Bet Layne Hudson. In addition to his parents Mr. Layne was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Layne. His funeral service will be held on Monday October 27, 2008 at 2 pm at Double Creek Church of Christ by Brother Roger Sickmiller and Brother Bob Parrish. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors by The American Legion Post 123 of Mount Airy and honors by the Copeland Masonic Lodge # 390. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Sunday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home where his body will remain until time to be carried to the church to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the funeral service. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kerley and his staff and to their many friends and neighbors for their loving kindness during this difficult time. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Double Creek Church of Christ Cemetery Fund 674 Double Creek Road Dobson, NC 27017.
