Harold Reid Southern

Mr. Harold Reid Southern, Sr., 73, husband of Mrs. Janet Hill Southern, of Dobson passed away on Friday, October 23, 2009 at Joan and Howard Hospice Home. He was born in Surry County on February 3, 1936 to the late Reid and Emma Jones Southern. Mr. Southern was retired from General Motors and was later employed by Golding Trucking. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served our country in Germany during the Korean Conflict and attended Salem Baptist Church. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 26 years, Mrs. Janet Hill Southern of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cynthia Southern of Garden City, Michigan, Sheri and Joseph Leonard of Dobson and Bethany and Jeff Juhl of Linden, Michigan; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Harold Reid Southern, Jr. of Flint Michigan and William and LaDonna Hertz of Galax, Virginia; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; six step-children, Randy Baria, Rebecca Delay, Mike Taylor, Rick Taylor, Gene Taylor and Bobby Taylor; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jo and Frank Marsh and a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Liza Southern all of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Southern was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Jack Southern. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday at 6 pm at Salem Baptist Church by Dr. Bobby Lewis. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Salem Baptist Church Building Fund or the Church Bus Fund, 430 Rockford Road, Dobson, NC 27017 or to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road Dobson, NC 27017. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Southern family.
