Harriett Sue Wagoner Childress

Mrs. Harriett Sue Wagoner Childress, 73, of Pinnacle, passed away Friday morning, July 12, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Childress was born February 24, 1951, in Surry County, the younger of two children born to the late Edward Carroll and Foye Chappell Wagoner. Harriett grew up in Mount Airy and graduated from North Surry High School in 1969. Following her high school graduation, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Catawba College and her master’s degree from Lenoir-Rhyne University. Harriett dedicated 30 years of her life to teaching the children at Flat Rock Elementary School, White Plains Elementary School, and Copeland Elementary School. She enjoyed watching her students grow and achieve at levels beyond expectation. With her love of students, she continued to tutor and mentor students and teachers alike in her retirement years. Also, her enjoyment and love of reading led her to work for a position at the King Public Library. She is survived by her husband, Edward Franklin “Ed” Childress; two sons, Corey Berrier and Josh Berrier and his wife, Michelle; two stepsons, Josh Childress and his wife, Kimberly, and Tate Childress; four grandchildren, Sydney Berrier, Landon Berrier, Ivy Berrier, and Ryle Berrier; three stepgrandchildren, Maddie Childress, Haston Childress, and Logan Childress; her sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Eddie Johnson; her nephews and nieces, Trevar and Sherry Johnson, Tracy Johnson, and Shera and Rodney Holder; several, loving great-nieces and great-nephews; and her beloved companion, Bentley. A service of worship and celebration of Harriett’s life will be held Friday, July 19, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Bethesda Methodist Church, located at 1253 Bethesda Church Road in Madison. The service will be conducted by Josh Berrier. No formal visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
