Mr. Harry Camden Eaton, Sr., 86, of North Main Street, Mount Airy, widower of Hattie Hall Eaton and the loving father of Freida, Becky, and Camden, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 9, 2008. He was born March 30, 1922, in Patrick County, VA, in the Willis Gap area to Sam and Nannie Belle DeHart Eaton. He was a retired watchmaker of 32 years, business owner, gun and antique dealer, and was often referred to as the "tradingest man in Surry County." Starting at an early age, he never met a stranger and never turned down the opportunity to start a conversation or make a trade. Harry was such a true and kind friend to all who knew him and will be dearly missed. He proudly served our country in the United States Army. He leaves behind many good memories. Mr. Eaton was a member of Victory Baptist Church. "Daddy followed the path God laid for him." He leaves behind in life to cherish the wonderful memories two daughters and a son-in-law, Becky Eaton of the home and Freida and Don Love of Pilot Mountain; a son and daughter-in-law, Camden and Linda Eaton of Mount Airy; three special grandchildren, Suzanne Bryant and husband, David, and Laura Collins, all of Pilot Mountain, and Jason Eaton of Mount Airy; four precious great-grandchildren, Brandon and Brelie Bryant and twins Carleigh and Camille Collins; a sister, Margie Fleming of Ararat, VA; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Farley and Violet Eaton and Betty A. Eaton, all of Ararat, VA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Eaton was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Hattie Irene Hall Eaton; three brothers, Famzo Eaton, Lonzie E. Eaton, and John Lee Eaton; two sisters, Irene Collins and Nellie Eaton; and three brothers-in-law, J.D. Hall, Alvin Hiatt, and the Rev. Lacy M. Puckett. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dean Eaton officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his wife, Hattie Irene Hall Eaton at Oakdale Cemetery, with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 to 8:30 at the funeral home. "Daddy was a wonderful Christian father, brother, uncle, and friend and will be greatly missed by the family and all who knew and loved him. Our loss is heaven's gain." Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain View Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Paige Noonkester, 194 Ridgeview Drive, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or Doe Run Baptist Church, c/o Wade Bowman, 711 Doe Run Road, Ararat, VA 24053.
