Harry Leonard Noonkester

Mr. Harry Leonard Noonkester, 71, of Lowgap, passed away Thursday morning, April 11, 2024, at PruittHealth in Elkin.  Mr. Noonkester was born May 20, 1952, in Surry County, the son of the late Foy Leonard and Myrtle Fulk Noonkester.   Leonard grew up in the Toast community and graduated from North Surry High School.  For many years, he owned and operated, along with his family, Noonkester Lumber and Noonkester Shavings.  Leonard also enjoyed farming for many years of his life.  He made a profession of Christian faith and was a member of Amazing Grace Baptist Church.  He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Will Haynes and Kim and Tim Lakey; five grandchildren, Logan Haynes, Trae Haynes, Anna Lakey, Ben Lakey, and Jaxon Lakey; a brother, Gary Noonkester; a niece, Cassie Noonkester; a longtime friend, Joe Moore; and his special friends, Ricky Puckett, Charles Smith, and Wayne East.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Noonkester was preceded in death by Susan Kirkman Noonkester.  A service of worship and celebration of Leonard’s life will be held Monday, April 15, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Dr. Jonathan Barker officiating.  The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
