Mr. Harvey Bowman Stafford, Jr., 83, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2010, at Forsyth Medical Center (Palliative Care) in Winston-Salem. Mr. Stafford was born December 17, 1926, in Giles County, VA, to the late Harvey Bowman Stafford, Sr. and Anna Laura Cherokee Robinson Stafford. Mr. Stafford served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a former co-owner of Mount Airy Bowling Lanes, continuing to work part time until just before his death. He was inducted in the Central Piedmont Bowling Association Hall of Fame, bowling the 1st perfect game in the Mount Airy Bowling Lanes. He is survived by his wife, Patty Johnson Stafford of the home; a daughter, Alice Monk of Mocksville; sons, Doug Stafford of Mount Airy and his special friend, Lynn Parker, of Cana, VA, and Charles Stafford of Mount Airy; stepdaughters and their husbands, Debbie and Jim Sewell of Morehead City,NC and Kim and Steve Todd of Naples, FL; a stepson and his wife, Bobby and Robin Bodenhamer of Mount Airy; grandchildren and a spouse, Kevin Stafford and his fiancée, Julie Braswell, Brad Stafford, Stacy Monk, Chad and Heather Stafford, and Amber Monk; stepgrandchildren and their spouses, Britta and Justin Cagle, Aysha Bodenhamer, Brad Mickey, Chris Mickey, Kayla Rhodes, Haven Cruise,Danielle and Cory Hiatt, Chuck Griffin, and Monica and Bill Pipes; three great-grandchildren, Elliot Stafford, Sofia Stafford, and Madisyn Blevins; a step-great-grandchild, June Pipes; a sister, Dorothy Whitehurst of Richmond, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stafford was preceded in death by a son, Harvey Stafford, III; two sisters, Mary Stafford and Ruby Stafford; six brothers, Alfred, Stuart, Ray, Herbert, Arthur, and William Stafford; two daughters-in-law, Sue Stafford and Rachel Stafford; and a stepgrandson, Zach Cruise. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at 4:00 PM at Blues Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sammy Lawson and the Rev. Dwight Sechrist officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with full military rites conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October, 5, 2010, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
