Hassie Marie Chandler Utt

Mrs. Hassie Marie Chandler Utt, 92, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 25, 2018, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Utt was born September 19, 1925, in Surry County, one of six children born to the late Milton Marion and Jessie Marie Crissman Chandler. Hassie was a loving mother, housewife, and caregiver. She was a devoted Christian and a member of Fancy Gap Baptist Church for 65 years. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Teresa Utt of Dobson and Steve and Leslie Utt of Cana, VA; her grandchildren, Jody and Jamie Utt, Tyler Utt, Stephanie and Brett Niston, Madison Utt, and Stacy and Darren Triplett; two great-grandchildren, Carter Reed Utt and Conner Drew Niston; a sister and brother-in-law, Donna Faye and Dean Beal of Fancy Gap, VA; a brother, Wayne Chandler of Mount Airy; many nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Gladys Boles, Sheila Berrier, and Beulah Norman. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Utt was preceded in death by her husband, Dempsey Reed Utt; and three brothers, Dennis Chandler, Ralph Chandler, and Jack Chandler. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 1:00 PM at Fancy Gap Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at the church. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.
