Hattie Loraine Hawks Worrell

Mrs. Hattie Loraine “Tinnie” Hawks Worrell, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015, at Central Continuing Care. She was born November 13, 1936, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Elliott and Fannie Underwood Hawks. Mrs. Worrell was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a homemaker and a member of True Vine Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl and Troy McMillian, Jr. of Cana, VA, and Faith and Albert Purdue of Thomasville; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry Ray Worrell, Sr. and Janet Worrell of Mount Airy; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Inez and David Bowman and Rhonda and Johnny Ables, all of Mount Airy; and two brothers, David Hawks and Garfield Hawks, both of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Worrell was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Tommy Worrell; a daughter, Debra Thompson; two sisters, Annie Hawks and Hassie Midkiff; and a brother, Billy Hawks. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at 2:00 PM at True Vine Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rayton Puckett, the Rev. Dink Haynes, and the Rev. David Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at True Vine Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Moody Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030, to assist the family with the funeral expenses. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Central Continuing Care and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their love and care.
