Hayford Hawks

Mr. Hayford Hawks, 78, of Mount Airy, passed away early Monday morning, October 1, 2018, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  Mr. Hawks was born November 5, 1939, in Carroll County, VA, the son of the late Hayford Hawks, Sr. and Hassie Ayers Hawks Sutphin.  Hayford retired as a truck driver from Roadway Trucking after 25 years of service and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.  He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Roy Ayers of Mount Airy and Lynn and Lewis Holmes of Pilot Mountain; his grandchildren, Alex and Carissa Sawyers of Denver, Holly Sawyers of Charlotte, Adam Lewis of Dobson, and Landon Holmes of Mount Airy; his stepgrandchildren, Gina and Jennifer Portano of Tybee Island, GA, and Anne Ayers of Mount Airy; a great-grandchild, Briley Sawyers of Denver; a great-stepgrandchild, Aailiyah Ayers of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Tony Transou of Mount Airy; his nieces and nephews, Valerie and Chad Draughn and Kevin and Sarah Clark, all of Mount Airy, and Neil and Jennifer Casstevens of Charlotte; and his great nieces and nephews, Savanhah Draughn and Grayson Draughn, both of Mount Airy, and Landon Casstevens and Lacie Casstevens, both of Charlotte.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Gayle Jones Hawks; his stepfather, Lacy Sutphin; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Virgil and Myrtle Harrison Jones.  A service of worship and celebration of Hayford’s life will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Alex L. Martin officiating.  Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  Flowers are appreciated, or memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC  27017.
