Miss (Hazel) Opaleene Beamer, age 99, of Greensboro, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Northern Regional Hospital in Mt. Airy.  She was born on May 2, 1923, in Surry County to the late Elbert Earl and Irene Pearl Gowen Beamer.  Miss Beamer earned a BS in nursing and master’s in education.  In her early career she worked with polio patients and was recognized for many selfless responsibilities assisting patients as well as other nurses.  She retired from Moses Cone as Director of Nursing.  She was the matriarch of the family, a tireless caregiver who cared for friends and family.  Miss Beamer enjoyed trips to the beach and hosted many parties with the family during the GGO.  She regularly assisted her sister and brother-in-law, Frances and John Collins at Dickson’s Records and Gifts.  Miss Beamer continued to care for her sister after John’s death.  Miss Beamer is survived by four nephews and a niece, Henry (Susan) Beamer, Richard (Marlene) Beamer, Dr. Andrew (Pat) Beamer, JoAnne (Dave) Schmidt, and Douglas Beamer; several great and great-great nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Miss Beamer was preceded in death by siblings Ernest and Garnet Beamer; and Frances Beamer Collins; and dear friend Marue Summerlin.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Skyline Memory Gardens with services conducted by Rev. Danny Miller.  There will be no formal visitation.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Central United Methodist Church, 1909 N. Main Street, Mt. Airy, 27030, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
