Mrs. Hazel King Combs, age 69, of Cana, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 17, 2019, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Combs was born in Carroll County on May 23, 1949, to Frank and Gladys Jones King. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Combs served as pastor’s wife at Slate Mountain Baptist Church and Lambsburg Baptist Church, and the past few years attended Westview Baptist Church.. Among the many who will always cherish her memory is her husband, Rev. Verlon Combs; daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and G. W. Bowman; and Anesia Bridges; grandchildren, Andrew Bowman and wife Felecia, and Luke Bowman and special friend, Greshma Mathew; a great grandson, Kalvin Bowman; sisters, Connie Cagle and Betty Leftwich; and a brother, Darrell King. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Combs was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Chuck Bridges; sisters, Dorothy Tolbert, and Ossie Golding and brothers, Otto and Curtis King. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Andrew Bowman, Rev. Luke Bowman and Rev. Dustin Jones. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express a special thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice for the exceptional care given to Mrs. Combs.
