Mrs. Hazel Virginia Marshall Draughn, 93, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, May 29, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Draughn was born November 26, 1915, in Surry County, daughter of the late Nathan Garland Marshall and Mary Maude Scott Marshall Slaydon. Hazel retired from Spencer's Inc. after 32 years of service and was a member of Dover Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Novijo and Kelvin Seivers and Glenda Smith, all of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Pat Draughn of Holden Beach; five grandchildren and their spouses, Donna and Randell Jarrell, John P. and Jamie Smith, Susan and Jeff Hemric, and David Seivers, all of Mount Airy, and Dean Draughn, Jr. and Sidney Draughn of South Lake, TX; fifteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, James Wayne Slaydon of Kernersville. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Draughn was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Howard Draughn; a son-in-law, Ralph Smith; a sister, Novella Parries; and two brothers, Herman Marshall and Charles Leroy Slaydon. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Dover Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. J. Cecil Hill officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:30 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
