Hazel Lou Tickle Simmons

Mrs. Hazel Lou Tickle Simmons, 84, of 325 Marion Street, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2007, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Simmons was born September 30, 1922, in Surry County, to the late Lonnie W. and Stella Mae Holder Tickle. She was a retired sales associate from J.C. Penney Company and a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Airy. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Warren G. Simmons of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Stephannie and Michael Dees of Galax, VA; a daughter-in-law, Teena Hurst Simmons of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Katie Simmons of Winston-Salem; a stepgrandson, Mike Dees of Orlando, FL; a sister, Kathryn Tickle of Orlando, FL; a brother, Lonnie W. Tickle, Jr.; a niece, Lynda Tickle McNeely of Atlanta, GA; and three nephews, Hugh Simmons of King, Bobby Tickle of Winston-Salem, and Steven Tickle. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Webster Simmons; a grandson, W.K. Dees; and a sister, Mabel Tickle. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at 10:00 AM at Oakdale Cemetery. The service will be conducted by Dr. Roger B. Gilbert. No formal visitation will be held at the funeral home.
