Mrs. Hazel Pardue Swift, of Thurmond, passed away Tuesday evening, December 21, 2010, at her daughter's home in Cana, VA. She was born September 6, 1929, in Surry County, to the late Foley and Lynda Nixon Pardue. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wendell "Toots" Swift; two sisters, Dot Pitts and Betty Key; a brother, Charles Pardue; and a special friend, Clarence Collins. Over the years, she was employed by Sunbeam, Wall Rope, and The Candle Factory and retired from the Surry County Sheriff's Department as a matron. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in State Road. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Gayle and Danny Fisher of Niota, TN, and Olivia and Ken Fortin of Cana, VA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Sheila Swift of Thurmond and Wayne and Donna Swift of State Road; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 23, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Attaway officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, and other times at the home of her son, Wayne Swift, located on Zephyr-Mountain Park Road in State Road. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, P.O. Box 130, State Road, NC 28676. Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson is serving the Swift family.
