Hazel Mildred Higgins Wood

Mrs. Hazel Higgins Wood, age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 9, 2021. She was born on April 7, 1940, in Wilkes County to the late Howard Higgins and the late Tressie Crouse. Mrs. Wood was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Anchored In Jesus Baptist Church and had retired from Proctor-Silex. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Wood and two brothers, William Higgins and Louie Higgins. Survivors include her daughter, Conchita Atkins (Wayne) of Dobson; granddaughter, Amanda Hawks (Sparky) of Dobson; great-granddaughter, Jenna Hawks of Dobson; sister, Georgia DeBord (Booker) of Sparta; brothers, James Higgins (Frances) of Dobson, Lloyd Higgins (Judy) of Cana, VA, Lonnie Higgins (Debbie) of Thurmond; sister-in-law, Betty Higgins of Thurmond and several nieces and nephews she loved very much. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at 2:00 pm at Anchored In Jesus Baptist Church, 5451 NC 268, Dobson, NC, with Rev. Larry Stone and Dr. Dan Merritt officiating. Burial will be at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, 172 Liberty Church Road, Dobson, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Anchored In Jesus Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Anchored In Jesus Baptist Church or to the Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
