Helen Isbell Hawks Edwards

Mrs. Helen Isbell Hawks Edwards, 68, of 145 McMickle School Road, Dobson, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Edwards was born August 15, 1940, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Gilbert and Ellen Hawks Hawks. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. She is survived by her husband, Loman Chester Edwards of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Ollis and Susan Hawks of Cana, VA; five stepgrandchildren, Trish Tate, Kalena Tate, Amanda Tate, Vicky Tate, and Kevin Hawks; three great-stepgrandchildren, Nevaeh Haynes, Dustin Tate, and Grady Tate; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sally and Lewis Farris of Cana, VA, and Ethel and Troy Edwards of Ararat, VA; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby Hawks, Clarence and Mable Hawks, and Polly Hawks, all of Cana, VA, and Earl and Pat Hawks of Lowgap. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by a sister, Mary "Maude" Edwards; and three brothers, Jessie Hawks, Junior "Blacky" Hawks, and John Henry Hawks. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 29, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Mike Osborne and Elder V.J. Hawks officiating. Burial will follow in the Edwards Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
