Helen Irene Bowman Gammons

Mrs. Helen Irene Bowman Gammons, 79, of 490 Poteat Road, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday morning, January 7, 2010, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born August 4, 1930, in Surry County, to the late Jona and Mary Coon Bowman. She was a homemaker and a member of Indian Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Bernie Gammons of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Richard Epperson of Ararat, VA; two grandchildren, Shane Hill of Mount Airy and Sara Hill of Ararat, VA; two step-grandchildren, Megan Epperson and Nathan Epperson, both of Pinnacle; a sister, Gladys Danley of Mount Airy; a brother-in-law, Gary Sechrist of Mount Airy; and a brother and three sisters-in-law, David and Inez Bowman, Dorothy Bowman, and Louise Bowman all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gammons was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Sue Sechrist; and four brothers, Joseph Samuel Bowman, Harold Ray Bowman, infant Jacob Bowman, and infant Robert Bowman; and a half-sister, Nellie Bowman Johnson. The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 10, 2010, at 2:30 PM at Indian Grove Baptist Church, with Mr. Randall Butner, the Rev. Clint M. Branch, and the Rev. Tommy Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Grove Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at Indian Grove Baptist Church.
