Helen Joyce High

Mrs. Helen Joyce Wright High, age 85, of Dobson, NC passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Forsyth Medical Center, in Winston-Salem, NC.  She was born in Anson County on March 3, 1937, to the late Fred Thomas Wright and the late Ollie Elizabeth Short Wright.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Maye High, her sisters, Estelle Taylor, Ruth McLain; brothers, Clyde Wright, Leonard Wright, Grady Wright, Hugh Wright. Joyce graduated from Wadesboro High School and furthered her education by graduating Magna Cum Laude from Appalachian State University with a Master of Arts Degree in Library Science. She established Dobson’s first flower shop, Ideal Florist and Gifts, which she later sold and become a Media Coordinator for the Surry County School System, from which she retired. She was a member of Dobson First Baptist Church.  Surviving is her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia High Tierney and her husband Vince Tierney; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory High and his wife, Lisha High; grandchildren, Kyle (Christine) Tierney, Cory (Meredith) High, Eric (Rebecca) High, Dr. Andrew (Dr. Kaitlin) Tierney, Ryan High; great-grandchildren, Ellie High, Maverick Tierney, Henry High, Layton High; sisters and brother-in-law, Patricia and W.T. Hannah, Nancy Lou Jones; brother, Fred D Wright.  The family wishes to express to Brittany Marsh their gratitude for the many years of loving care provided for Joyce and the High family.  Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, February 4, 2023, in the chapel of the Dobson First Baptist Church with Rev. Cory Honeycutt officiating the service.  A private burial will follow.  No formal services will be held at the funeral home. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the High family.
