Helen Virginia Simmons Neese

Helen Virginia Simmons Neese, age 94, of Elkin, NC, passed away at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC, on April 3, 2023, after a long illness.  Helen was born in Surry County, NC, on September 26, 1928 to Charlie and Eunice Martin Simmons.  Helen was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and retired from Lucia.  Helen loved to read her Bible and loved to sew.  She was musically talented and could play the guitar and organ by ear.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Carol Adkins, Annie Gaither, Irene Shore, Kathlene Widner, Mary Carter; brother, Lawrence Simmons; son-in-law, Eddie Baugus.

Survivors include her daughters, Patti Baugus, Cheryl Nichols and her husband, Nicky; sons, J.R. Neese, Jr. and his wife, Linda, Richard Neese and his wife, Barbara, Randy Neese and his wife, Karen; grandchildren, Jeff (Jennifer), Eric, Jason (Amanda), Matthew (Suzanne), Seless (Daniel), Jeremiah; great-grandchildren, Tyler, John, Josie, Aaron, Bennett; step grandchildren, Melissa (Jeff), Star (Andrew), Chloe, Kaitlin; step great-grandchild, Macie; many loving nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday, April 10, 2023, at 11:00 am with Pastor Chad Whitley officiating.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to the Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.  The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and the Woltz Hospice Home for their care.  Special thanks to Carolyn Shore, Lynn Wilmoth, Shirley Hill, Jeanette Moxley, Ronnie Carter, and her church family for all their acts of kindness during mama’s illness.
