Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Thompson Walker, 76, loving wife of Samuel J. Walker of Dobson, passed away on Monday March 26, 2007 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born in McDowell County, NC on February 17, 1931 to the late William Robert and Mary Clay Thompson. Mrs. Walker was retired from the Surry County School System where she taught at Dobson Elementary. Surviving are her devoted husband of fifty three years, Samuel J. Walker of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Samuel Jett Jr. and Cathie R. Walker of Waxhaw, NC, John Thompson and Belle Walker of Walnut, CA and Jackson Andrew and Kristine R. Walker of Waxhaw, NC; six precious grandchildren, Matthew Lucas Walker, Lindsey Elizabeth Walker, Jennifer Claire Walker, William Andrew Walker, Katelynne Elisabeth Walker and Tyler Christian Walker; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Harold and Christine Thompson of Rutherfordton, NC. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday March 29, 2007 at Dobson United Methodist Church with Rev. Benny Hahn and Rev. Jack Yarborough officiating. Burial will follow in the Dobson City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Wednesday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home where her body will remain until time to be taken to the church to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the funeral service. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. George Plonk, his staff, and to the nurses and staff of 4B ICU of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for all the kindness shown to Helen and her family during her stay there.
