Mrs. Helen Arlene Freeman Williams, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday afternoon, September 15, 2016, at Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation in Elkin. Mrs. Williams was born June 4, 1927, in Surry County, one of seven children born to the late Early Richard and Alice Geneva Johnson Freeman. Helen was a homemaker and a member of the Christian faith. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and David Draughn of Mount Airy; a grandson and his wife, Dustin and Claire Draughn of Mount Airy; a granddaughter and her husband, Jenna and the Rev. David Baker of Apex; a great-grandson, Caleb Baker of Apex; a great-granddaughter, Evelyn Baker of Apex; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Williams; an infant son; two sisters, Pauline Mathis and Lillian O’Neal; and four brothers, Jack Freeman, John Freeman, Gene Freeman, and Carl Ray Freeman. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 12:00 PM at Monta Vista Memorial Gardens in Galax, VA, with the Rev. David Baker officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation.
