Mr. Hennis Newton Clement, age 93, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday night, January 16, 2025, at his daughter's home in Mount Airy surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Clement was born on September 8, 1931, to the late Adam Smith Clement and Sallie Matthews Clement in Patrick County, Virginia. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend, he will be deeply missed. Mr. Clement enjoyed fishing, tending to the garden, working on the farm, and lending a helping hand to his neighbors. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, and had retired from JP Stevens in Stuart, Virginia. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit and being “Papa Hennis” to many. Mr. Clement is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Vicky White, Gail Smith, Sandy and Randy McCuiston; son, Steve Clement; grandchildren and their spouses, Amanda Clement, Jamey Rupard, Travis Rupard and Amy, Haley White, Jessie White and Brenna, Joshua Smith and Abby, Zachary Chandler and Johanna, Kristen Riddle and Tyler; great grandchildren, Ava Brannock, Madison Rupard, EmmaLee Rupard, Ollie Lee, Sullivan Lee, Mackenzie Smith, Violet Chandler, Charlie Chandler, Raegan Riddle; sister, Lottie Bowman; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Mildred Clement; many nieces and nephews; a very special neighbor, Todd Chandler. In addition to his parents, Mr. Clement was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Juanita Hall Clement; sisters, Lucy Smith, Alpha Rorrer Slate; brothers, Nelson Clement, Willis Clement, Romey Clement. A celebration of Mr. Clement’s life will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy at 1:00 PM with Pastor David Heath officiating. A burial will follow at Hall Family Cemetery in Claudville, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 12:00 PM until time of the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice PO Box 325 Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by all the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. A very special thanks to Shelia, Amy, Johnathan, Courtney and Freedom. Moody’s of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Clement family.
