Mr. Henry Lee Seivers, Sr. age 85, passed away Monday evening, June 15, 2009, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.
He was born April 26, 1924, in the Middlefork Township of Forsyth County. He was the oldest son of William Henry "Bill" Seivers and Etta Elizabeth Merritt Seivers.
He served in the United States Army during World War II in the 276th Armor Field Artillery. He landed with the United States Military on Utah Beach in France in 1944. He received a Bronze Star for his service. Upon returning from the war, he married Lois Worrell Brinkley on July 20, 1945, at Grace Moravian Church in Mount Airy. In 1955, he was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He had a strong testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ and His true gospel on the earth today. He served as the Ward Mission Leader and as Bishop of the Mount Airy ward for several years. He worked for Cardinal Stone Construction for 32 years. In 1986, Henry retired as their general superintendent. He drove cars for many dealers in Mount Airy, transporting them from as far away as Washington, D.C. to Florida. He was known to have a "led foot." Henry could never sit still. He was always making something in his shop, planting and/or working in his garden, helping his children, a neighbor, or someone in the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three grandchildren, Carol Ann Logan, Michael Phillip Seivers, Jr., and Angela Loissa Seivers.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Worrell Brinkley Seivers of the home; six children and their spouses, Paulette and Harold Logan of Fayetteville, Henry Lee Seivers, Jr. and Lynn Seivers of Pinnacle, Michael P. and Kitty Seivers of Mount Airy, Gregory L. and Janet Seivers of Dobson, Rebecca J. and Ricky Smith of Mount Airy, and Keith M. and Julie Seivers of Mount Airy. Also surviving is his brother, Kelvin T.H. and Novijo Seivers of Mount Airy. Henry was the loving grandfather of twenty-seven grand-children and twenty-four great-grandchildren (including on the way).
The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson for one hour prior to a graveside service, which will be held Thursday, June 18, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Dobson City Cemetery. Bishop David P. Hiatt will conduct the graveside service.
The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Dobson City Cemetery, Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
The family would like to express special thanks for the love and care given to their husband and father by the staff of Northern Hospital of Surry County, the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, and the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.
