Herbert Arnold Hallett, 73, passed away on August 19, 2019 at his home in Mt. Airy North Carolina, with his loving wife and children by his side after a long hard battle with lung cancer. Herbert Arnold Hallett was born, January 25, 1946, in East St. Louis, Illinois to the late Herbert and Hallie Josephine (Flechsig) Hallett. Herb’s father had passed away in an accident before he was born. Herb grew up in East St. Louis, Illinois and joined the United States Army at the young age of 17 and served his country honorably for over 20 years. His services included tours in Vietnam, Germany, and Turkey. He earned both Bronze and Silver Stars. Herb retired with honors from the US Army as Sergeant First Class. After retiring from the Army, he ventured fully, he then conquered his entrepreneurial interests in Missouri and Florida Keys. Then finally moved to North Carolina in 1994 with his wife to raise their children in the country. Herb’s adventures consisted owning a small farm, managed several hotels/resorts/restaurants, and convenience stores. Most of all Herb enjoyed going to actions and dealing with cars. Herb never met a stranger, he was known for his friendly smile and easy conversations, and always offering a helping hand. He loved to travel and spend time with his family. Herb had a heart of gold. Mr. Hallett is survived by his loving devoted wife/partner of 28 years, Janet Linebaugh McCray-Hallett of Mt. Airy (formally of Westfield North Carolina) his daughter Christina Hallett-Kronkaitis and her husband John Kronkaitis (Herndon, Virginia), his daughter, Monica Negron (Dumfries, Virginia), his son James “Ben” McCray and significant other Nicole Rodriguez (Ararat, North Carolina), his daughter Kelly Beck and her husband Donald “DJ” Beck Jr. (Ararat, North Carolina), his son Herbert “Buddy” Hallett and significant other Hailie Holt (Mt Airy, North Carolina). His six grandchildern, Michael Kronkaitis, Pablo Negron, Matthew Kronkaitis, Zacarias Negron, Kelsey McCray, and James McCray; two sisters survive him also, Sandra Whitaker and her husband Ronald Whitaker (El Dorado Springs, Missouri) and Kathleen Herderson and her husband Raymond Herderson (Bull Shoals, Missouri), His brother in law John “Bob” Linebaugh and his wife Chris Linebaugh (Jupiter, Florida), his sister in law Joan Hughes (Star, Idaho), a special cousin, Jane Osuga of grove City Idaho, as well as many nieces and nephews, and many special friends. Mr. Hallett was preceded in death by his father Herbert Hallett, step father Frank Chaudoin, mother Hallie Josephine Hallett and mother in law Johnnie Linebaugh. The family will receive friends at Moody’s Funeral Home in Mt. Airy North Carolina September 7, 2019 at 1:00 PM then following will have a service at 2:00 PM in the chapel for Mr. Hallett with Pastor Donnie Holyfield. Following the service the family welcomes everyone to join them for a Celebration of Life for loving Herb Hallett at the local VFW building located in Pilot Mtn, North Carolina.
