Herman Roscoe Horton

Mr. Herman Roscoe Horton, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday night, February 17, 2018, at his home. Mr. Horton was born October 7, 1938, in Carroll County, VA, one of three sons born to the late Harry and Ethel Harriman Horton. Herman served our country in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed old cars and sharing his faith and love for Jesus Christ with all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Goins Horton of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Keaven and Sharon Horton and Kerry and Freedom Horton, all of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Paige Horton of Statesville, Blake Horton and Levi Horton, both of Mount Airy, and Bailey Atkins of Boone; a brother, Harold Horton of Cincinnati, OH; and several nieces and nephews, along with several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Horton was preceded in death by a brother, Mason Horton. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jamey Horton, Herman’s nephew, and the Rev. Michael Combs officiating. Burial will follow in the Semones Cemetery in Hillsville, VA. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, as well as the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, especially Paige Combs, Angel Goins, and Joe Smith.
