Herman Eatel Thomas

Mr. Herman Estel Thomas, 86, of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, November 12, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Surry County on May 3, 1932 to the late George Ellis and Trusty Emmaline Bryant Thomas.  Mr. Thomas was retired from Carl Rose and Sons Paving and a member of Union Hill Friends Meeting.  He proudly served our country in the United States Army.  He is survived by his loving wife, Casper Jean Johnson Thomas of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Gary Wilson; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Sue Thomas, Keith Thomas, Mark and JoAnn Thomas; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great grandchild on the way; sisters and brothers-in-law, Vivian Lakey, Delphia and Richard Chapell, Kathy and Raymond Payne, John Gery; a brother and sisters-in-law, Terry Lee and Nellie Thomas, Delphia Thomas, Kaye Thomas, Patty Thomas; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Faye Thomas Gery; brothers, Arvil Thomas, Aubrey Thomas, Kenneth Thomas, and McArthur Thomas.  A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Union Hill Friends Meeting with the Rev. Ernest L. Brown and the Rev. Ronald Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain.  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at Union Hill Friends Meeting.  Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Union Hill Friends Meeting, 2315 Red Brush Rd., Mt.
