Hersel Granville Smith

Mr. Hersel Granville Smith, 81, of 110 Hicks Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday morning, August 20, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Smith was born June 26, 1928, in Surry County, to the late Joe Sheridan and Nannie Belle Hall Smith. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from Proctor-Silex Inc. He was a member of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Eva Jean Moxley Smith of the home; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Phyllis and Troy Tolbert and Clara Berrier, all of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Silas Junior and Margaret Smith of Mount Airy; three special sisters-in-law, Pauline Puckett of Mount Airy, Lorene Hooker of Williamsburg, VA, and Audene Moxley of Fancy Gap, VA; and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his son, Randall Joe Smith; a brother, Calvin Smith; and a brother-in-law J.C. Berrier. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 22, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with the Rev. Dale Wallace officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
