Hester May Collins Eaton

Mrs. Hester May Collins Eaton of 5551 Pinebrook Lane, Winston-Salem, widow of Edgar Joseph Eaton, Jr., passed away Saturday morning, June 20, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born March 28, 1923, in Patrick County, VA, to the late Joseph Gideon and Mary Della Frye Collins. Hester will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Her resilient attitude contributed to her long life. Adversity shaped her from losing her mother at an early age. She was blessed with unique beauty, a strong will, and a vibrant personality. She was always at ease with people and made people at ease. She was gifted with an eye for design, style, art, and decor. She was a gifted seamstress who made designer-type clothes. She also enjoyed decorating, planting flowers, bowling, her pet poodle, going to the beach, and the zest of life. Spirited, hard working, and detail oriented, anything she did was neat and immaculate. Frequent visits to her only daughter and family of four grandchildren in Marietta, GA, was a big part of her life. Recently living at Priddy Manor Assisted Living in King, she experienced new friendships and love. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Mavis and Jack Anderson, Marietta, GA; four grandchildren, Juaquin Anderson of Honolula, HI, Serena Anderson of Marietta, GA, Sasha Anderson of Houston, TX, and Zack Anderson of Honolula, HI; seven sisters and four brothers-in-law, Thelma Bruner of Burlington, Clara Hall of Ararat, VA, Susie Edwards of Mount Airy, Neomia Hall and Harvey of Ararat, VA, Peggy and Wally Walker of Cana, VA, Linda and Buck Edwards of Mount Airy, and Myrtle and Davis Love of Mount Airy; and three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Robert and Francis Collins of Mount Airy, James Collins of Boonville, Joseph and Brenda Collins of Ararat, Ruth Cooke and Peggy Eaton both of Mt. Airy. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Eaton was preceded in death by three sisters, Mabel Griffith, Gladys Matthews, and Hazel Stevens; and a brother, Vester Collins. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at 4:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Kevin Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the funeral home.
