Mrs. Hester Bartlett Jackson, 84, widow of Mr. Charles C. Jackson, of Dobson went to be with her Lord on July 19, 2008. The oldest of five children, she was born in Wayne County on November 16, 1923 to the late Luther Osborne Bartlett, Sr. and Janie Jackson Bartlett. Mrs. Jackson was an honor graduate of Salem College and Appalachian State University. She was employed as a Librarian at the Northern Western Regional Library and was retired from the Dobson Community Library. After her retirement, she shared her love for local history and genealogy and wrote a column for the Mount Airy News for more than twenty years. A loving mother, grandmother and friend, she leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted children, Michael Conoly Jackson of Dunn, Charles Bartlett Jackson of Pilot Mountain, Daniel Warren Jackson of Dobson and Paul H. and wife Nan F. Jackson also of Dobson; four grandchildren Charles Bartlett Jackson, Jr., John Daniel Jackson, both of Pilot Mountain, Kathryn Folger Jackson and Franklin David Jackson both of Dobson; a sister and brother-in-law Janie and Gil Glandorf of Iowa City, Iowa; a half-sister Sybil Sasser and husband George of Warrenton, Virginia and a step-sister Helen Godwin of Goldsboro; a brother Luther Osborne Bartlett of Goldsboro and a half-brother Newton Bartlett and wife Marlene of Pikeville; several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Monday, July 21, 2008 at Roberts Grove Baptist Church in Dunn, NC with Rev. Fred Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Sunday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dobson Community Library 113 South Crutchfield Street Dobson, NC 27017 or to Dobson First Baptist Church Operation Inasmuch Fund, 204 Crutchfield Street Dobson, NC 27017, The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Jean Flinchum for all the love and kindness she has shown to their dear mother during her illness.
