Mrs. Hilda Ann Creed Nichols, 80, of Mount Airy, passed away early Monday morning, January 23, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Nichols was born May 17, 1942, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Johnny Lindsay and Betty Moser Creed. She retired as a cosmetologist after many years of service and was a member of White Plains Friends Meeting. She is survived by her husband, Ben Gentry Nichols of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Jim Benfield of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Benny and Caroline Nichols of Ararat and Kenny and Tonya Nichols of Rural Hall; six grandchildren and their spouses, Tara Benfield, Candice and Cody Simpson, Benjamin and Nichole Nichols, Will and Katie Nichols, Sierra Nichols, and Brooke Nichols; six great-grandchildren, Amelia Simpson, Rhett Hodges, Rylan Hodges, Hendrix Nichols, Wyatt Simpson, and Adeline Nichols; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jenna Ann Benfield; two sisters, Arlene Stewart and Norma Tucker; and two brothers, Hugh Malen Creed and Joe Creed. A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 26, 2023, at 2:00 PM at White Plains Friends Meeting Cemetery, with the Rev. Jake Penley officiating. No formal visitation will be held. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by Dr. Giordano and the nursing staff at Novant Health Cancer Institute in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
