Hilda Gaye Arrington Bowen

Mrs. Hilda Gaye Arrington Bowen, 82, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, January 14, 2022, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, after a brief illness.  She was born November 9, 1939, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Lester Arrington and Essie East Arrington Martin.  Early on, she made her home in Plain City, OH, for 10 years, after living in Rosman and Brevard, NC.  Prior to returning to Mount Airy after retirement in 2002, she lived in Franklin, TN, where she worked at Claiborne and Hughes Nursing Home, helping with patient activities.  In Mount Airy, she was active with The Salvation Army, Mountain Valley Hospice, and a member of Salem United Methodist Church.  Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Cooke; a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Kat Cooke; her granddaughters, Tonya Suzanne Goldsberry and Morgan Rae Brooks; her grandsons, Jacob Cooke and his wife, Allison, and Seth Cooke and his wife, Naomi; her great-grandchildren, Brooks Knight, Ellie Goldsberry Rogers, Harlan Harris, Genevieve Cooke, Nolan Cooke, and Carter Goldsberry Rogers; two sisters, Ethelene Edwards and Barbara Edmiston; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Harvey and Jean Arrington, Jack Arrington, and Dennis and Lynn Arrington; three stepsisters, Ruth Williams, Patricia Vestal, and Judy Stevens; a stepbrother, Mitchell Arrington; and a special friend, Bobby Thomas.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowen was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Alan Wayne Bowen; a sister-in-law, Tish Arrington; and two brothers-in-law, Tom Edwards and Jim Edmiston.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Brendan Crowe, the Rev. D.C. Collins, and Dana Acker officiating.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC  27030.
