Howard Chester Tate

Mr. Howard Chester “Jay Bird” Tate, 75, of Ararat, VA passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem.  He was born in Carroll County, VA on May 14, 1943 to the late Emmett and Lolar Alverta Utt Tate.  Mr. Tate was a retired mechanic and an honorary employee of Mt. Airy Iron and Metal.  He is survived by his girlfriend, Ines Tate; step-children, Phyllis and Paul Willard, Harry and Lilli Tate; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda Heath, Helen and James Anderson, Shirley and Gilbert Bolen, Carolyn and Dale Fowler; brothers, Clarence Tate, and Donnie Tate; seven step-grandchildren; fifteen great- step-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Tate was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Tate.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy McCraw officiating.  Entombment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 PM until time for the service at moody Funeral Home in Mt.
