Mr. Hugh Turner Ammerman, 77, of 1312 Crescent Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday night, August 11, 2013, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Ammerman was born April 14, 1936, in Hamilton County, TN, the son of the late Hugh Turner Ammerman, Sr. and Annie Craig Ammerman. Hugh was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. He proudly served our country as a United States Naval Aviator for 7 years active duty and an additional 18 years in the reserves, attaining the rank of Captain. Ammerman worked as an executive salesperson at Renfro Corporation from 1971 until 2000. Through the years, Hugh served on the board of directors of The Military Officers Association as well as The Christian Village of King. Mr. Ammerman was a faithful member of Dobson Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Aurelia "Aurie" Kantra Ammerman of the home; his daughter and a son-in-law, Karen and Bryan Carter of Greensboro; his daughter, Mary Catherine Ammerman of Asheville; his son and daughter-in-law, Hugh Turner Ammerman, III and Elizabeth Hall Ammerman of Nashville, TN; and three grandchildren, Matthew Carter and Andrew Carter, both of Greensboro, and Nora Ammerman of Nashville, TN. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ammerman was preceded in death by four sisters, LuMary Ammerman, Sally Novak, Nancy Dorris, and Frances Jarrett. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Pastor Ralph R. Sproles officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery, with military honors by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
